The Request

My department, MIEMSS Media, was commissioned by the Winterfest Committee to create a new logo for their conference. This is something that we collaborate on every year, but this time they wanted a logo that could be used professionally every year. The request was to create a logo that could be used across different mediums and represented both the Maryland Eastern Shore (where the conference is held) and education for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) fields.

Research and Drafts

I began by researching the Eastern Shore area and seeing what elements are the main features, as well as seeing what local companies are using for imagery. I noticed that a highlight of the Eastern Shore was their waterfront localities and diverse bird life. While looking up imagery, tourist attractions, and landmarks, I created a mindmap of words that come to mind when you think of Winterfest.

From there, I drafted initial sketch ideas and pulled from those to create digitial renditions in illustrator. I gathered feedback from my team to see which logos resondated with them.

Refining the Drafts

After narrowing down the logos, I created a sheet of each logo with dimension and color variations to send to the committee. They eventually went with Option A, and from there I worked on adjusting the colors, sizing, and spacing. During this review and refine process I kept in contact with the committee and sent them updated versions of the chosen logo.

Final Results

Once I refined the finer details of the logo and colors, I put created a logo usage guide to assist in the committee in their marketing. From there, I created a package containing all of the logo versions in various file types, the color palette, fonts, and a PDF of the logo guide, and passed it to the committee.
